Duration: 3-4 hours
Lavash is one of the most widespread types of bread in Armenia and is common to the cuisines of the South Caucasus, Western Asia, and the areas surrounding the Caspian Sea. Lavash is a thin flatbread, usually leavened, traditionally baked in a tandoor (tonir).
In 2014, "Lavash, the preparation, meaning and appearance of traditional bread as an expression of culture in Armenia" was inscribed in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This experience offers a Master class in Lavash baking in historical Garni in a tandoor (tonir) where Armenians used to bake Lavash traditionally.
You will be part of the process of Lavash baking, learn to bake Lavash yourself and taste fresh Lavash just baked by you with butter, cheese and herbs.
You will also receive Lavash as a gift.
If you wish you can add the discovery of the 1st century Garni Pagan Temple and partly mountain-carved Geghard Monastery to this experience with an additional fee.
The other optional experience is making barbeque in the stunning Garni Gorge and discovering the Symphony of stones.
